Darrell Smith is a charter member of the Little Rock Winds and after that first year became the principal horn, a position he held for 16 years. After eight years away, he returned to the LR Winds horn section in 2017.
Darrell has performed with the South Arkansas Symphony, Pine Bluff Symphony, Mass Brass, Ozark Point Brass Quintet and the Arkansas Symphony, as well as for many area churches. He is a retired band director with 32 years in the public school sector and three years at UA-Little Rock. He now teaches private horn lessons, gives horn master classes and clinics, and does some adjudicating for the Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association.
Darrell received the Bachelor of Music Education degree from Henderson State University where he was in the band directed by Wendall Evanson. He gives special thanks to former teachers and associates Curt Derden, Ron Bryant, Don Kramer, Dr. Wesley Branstine, Dr. Earl Hesse, and Dr. Karen Fannin.
