J. Kyle Blackburn


Cabot native J. Kyle Blackburn, euphonium, joined the LR Winds fulltime in 2009 after serving as a sub for a couple of years. He is a founding member of tuba quartet Basso Voce, which has performed on several diverse programs, including Diversions and Octubafest. Recently, they could be heard playing the National Anthem at Dickey-Stephens Park for the Arkansas Travelers.


Kyle is the director of children’s music at St. James United Methodist Church in Little Rock. Prior to that, he was the music director at Lakewood UMC in North Little Rock and First UMC in Bonham, Texas.


He earned the Bachelor of Arts in music from Arkansas Tech University where he studied euphonium with Andy Anders. He studied choral conducting as a graduate assistant at Texas A&M University-Commerce and completed the professional certification of music ministry curriculum at SMU Perkins.
