Jo Ann Koehler has held the position of 2nd Flute in the LR Winds since January 2013. She is the Director of Fine Arts in the Pulaski County Special School District, a position she has held since January 2010. Prior to serving in that position, Koehler was the band director at Northwood Jr. High/Middle School for 15 years. She held the position of piccolo/3rd flute in the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra from 1995-1999.
A native Arkansan, Koehler graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Arkansas Tech University where she won the ATU Concerto Competition. She holds a Master of Music in Flute Performance from the University of North Texas, a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Arkansas, and a Doctor of Education from Harding University. She studied flute with Karen Futterer, Mary Karen Clardy, and Jim Walker.
The common thread throughout Koehler’s career in music education is being a constant advocate for music in the public schools, specifically performance based music ensembles. She has a passion for ensuring the music education of all children so as to educate the whole child and enhance learning beyond today’s tested computation and literacy skills.
