Jo Ann Koehler has held the position of 2nd Flute in the LR Winds since January 2013. She is the Director of Fine Arts in the Pulaski County Special School District, a position she has held since January 2010. Prior to serving in that position, Koehler was the band director at Northwood Jr. High/Middle School for 15 years. She held the position of piccolo/3rd flute in the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra from 1995-1999.
A native Arkansan, Koehler graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Arkansas Tech University where she won the ATU Concerto Competition. She holds a Master of Music in Flute Performance from the University of North Texas, and a Master of Science in Educational Leadership from the University of Central Arkansas. She is currently pursuing the Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Harding University and, upon completion, plans to seek the Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Harding. She studied flute with Karen Futterer, Mary Karen Clardy and Jim Walker.
The common thread throughout Koehler’s career in music education is being a constant advocate for music in the public schools, specifically performance based music ensembles. She has a passion for ensuring the music education of all children so as to educate the whole child and enhance learning beyond today’s tested computation and literacy skills.
